The Department are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to contribute to the implementation and ongoing evolution of an AI Platform Capability. This role will work closely with architecture, security, and delivery teams to build, automate, and operate platform services that enable secure, scalable, and cost-effective adoption of AI capabilities across the organisation.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Demonstrated experience engineering and operating cloud platforms used by multiple product or application teams.
- Strong hands-on experience in AWS and/or Azure, including:
- Networking (segmentation, routing, private connectivity, DNS)
- Identity and access management (federation, IAM/RBAC, least privilege, privileged access)
- Security services (KMS/Key Vault, encryption, secrets management, certificate management)
- Logging, monitoring, alerting, and observability practices
- Proven experience developing and managing Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Bicep, or equivalent.
- Strong experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and platform engineering toolchains.
- Demonstrated experience implementing security requirements through automated controls, policy-as-code, and cloud-native security services.
- Ability to evaluate cloud services and implement fit-for-purpose solutions while considering scalability, resilience, operational supportability, and cost.
- Experience operating and supporting production cloud workloads, including incident response, problem management, and continuous improvement activities.
- Experience implementing platform patterns for developer self-service, environment provisioning, and workload onboarding.
- Ability to produce technical documentation, operational runbooks, architecture decision records, and assurance artefacts suitable for governance and audit purposes.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work across multiple teams and technology domains.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary delivery teams to ensure solutions are implemented, supported, and operated successfully in production environments.
Location and Contract Term: This role can be based in ACT or Melbourne . 12 Contract with 3 x 12 - month contract extension options pending budget and delegate approval.
Security Requirements: Applicants must be Australian Citizens and hold a Baseline security clearance.
