About the Role
The Senior Project Officer will join a specialised program area supporting strategically important initiatives focused on cyber security, global capability development, and counter‑cybercrime activities.
Working as an APS6‑equivalent Project Officer, you’ll provide program and administrative support across a range of technically oriented projects. The role involves a blend of project coordination, financial administration, reporting, governance, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Assisting with project and program planning, including drafting program artefacts.
  • Supporting budget management, procurement activity, and providing financial guidance.
  • Preparing program reports, dashboards, and management artefacts.
  • Maintaining registers, access controls, quality processes, and recordkeeping.
  • Managing program documentation within EDRMS.
  • Maintaining and coordinating project and program risk registers.
  • Preparing briefs, governance packs, and acting as secretariat for boards and committees.
  • Providing high‑level administrative and coordination support across complex technical programs.
  • Creating engaging reports and documentation using the Microsoft Office Suite.
Working Arrangements:
The role is part‑time (approximately 24 hours per week across three days). Flexible work arrangements may be negotiable with the supervisor.
The Successful Candidate
  • To excel in this role, you will bring strong project coordination experience along with the ability to operate effectively in a high‑tempo, security‑focused environment.
 
You will demonstrate:
  • Proven experience supporting project or program delivery within government, Defence, or similarly complex environments.
  • Strong organisational and administrative capability, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Confidence managing financial processes, procurement, reporting, and governance artefacts.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and deliver high‑quality outputs.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Experience using EDRMS and maintaining project documentation.
  • A professional, ethical approach and a strong work ethic.

Location: The role is based in Canberra ACT.
Contract terms: 12 months, plus x 12-month extensions
Security Requirements: Minimum Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) is required. An OSA(Organisational Suitability Assessment) will be required for this position.
