About the Client
Our client is a highly regarded national security organisation operating within the Australian Government's Defence environment. They play a critical role in protecting Australia's national interests through advanced cyber security capabilities, intelligence operations, and the protection of critical government systems.
Due to continued growth and operational requirements, opportunities exist for experienced Senior Security Engineers specialising in Vulnerability Assessment to join a high-performing team working on complex and mission-critical cyber security initiatives.
About the Role
As a Senior Security Engineer - Vulnerability Assessor, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing and prioritising security vulnerabilities across a range of ICT environments. Working within a highly secure environment, you will provide expert advice and recommendations to strengthen security controls, improve resilience, and reduce organisational risk.
 
Key responsibilities include:
  • Conducting vulnerability assessments and analysing security threats across complex ICT systems.
  • Leading investigations into potential security vulnerabilities and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness and compliance of security controls.
  • Performing security risk assessments and business impact analyses.
  • Supporting security incident investigations and response activities.
  • Providing technical security advice covering physical, procedural and technical security controls.
  • Reviewing system designs and architecture to identify security risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Contributing to security engineering standards, policies and best-practice frameworks.
  • Assisting stakeholders in maintaining the integrity, security and resilience of critical infrastructure and systems.
 
The Successful Candidate
To be successful, you will bring strong experience in cyber security, vulnerability assessment, threat analysis and security assurance within complex enterprise environments.
 
You will demonstrate:
  • Experience conducting vulnerability assessments, security reviews and risk analysis activities.
  • Knowledge of compliance monitoring and security controls testing.
  • Experience supporting or conducting security audits and assurance activities.
  • Understanding of intrusion detection principles and security monitoring practices.
  • Strong threat intelligence, threat modelling and threat assessment capabilities.
  • The ability to analyse complex technical information and communicate findings to a range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating security risks.
  • Experience working within highly regulated or security-focused environments.
 
Candidates must also be willing to undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to engagement.

Location: The role is based in Canberra ACT.
Contract terms: 12 months from commencement date, plus 2x 12 month extensions
Experience Level: Senior – EL1 Equivalent
Security Requirements: Candidates must hold an active or reactivatable Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) Security Clearance on submission. Our client is not looking to upgrade an existing clearance for this position. An OSA(Organisational Suitability Assessment) will be required for this position.
