Senior Security Governance and Policy Officer

Seeking a Senior Security Governance and Policy Officer for a permanent position. 

The Current Security policy is out of date and not fit for purpose. This person will help uplift the current policy. They will conduct enterprising level risk management, assurance and control monitoring.

This role requires the candidate to be writing the policy (design, draft)- providing advice to stakeholders to advice on what is required.

About the Client Our client is a well-established organisation operating within a highly regulated environment, supporting critical national outcomes and delivering services across complex security, risk and compliance landscapes. They are committed to maintaining robust governance frameworks and are seeking an experienced security professional to strengthen their enterprise security capability. As part of a broader uplift of their security function, the organisation is undertaking a review and modernisation of its existing security policy framework. This role will play a pivotal part in ensuring security policies, standards and governance practices are fit for purpose, aligned to current obligations and effectively embedded across the business.

About the Role An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Security Governance & Policy Advisor to lead the uplift of the organisation's security governance framework. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will take ownership of the design, drafting, review and implementation of security policies, standards and procedures across multiple security domains. This is a highly consultative role where you will provide expert guidance to stakeholders on security requirements, governance obligations and policy implementation. You will be responsible for translating complex legislative, regulatory and security requirements into practical and effective policy outcomes that support organisational objectives. Beyond policy development, you will play a key role in enterprise-wide security risk management, assurance activities and control monitoring, helping to drive improved governance, compliance and security maturity across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, review and ongoing enhancement of security policies, standards and governance frameworks.
  • Design, draft and maintain security policy documentation and supporting governance artefacts.
  • Provide expert advice on security governance, compliance and regulatory obligations.
  • Support enterprise security risk management, assurance and control monitoring activities.
  • Coordinate audit responses, compliance reviews and remediation activities.
  • Develop executive reporting, governance papers and security performance reporting.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement workshops and policy consultation activities.
  • Monitor changes to legislative, regulatory and security requirements and assess organisational impacts.
  • Deliver security awareness and policy education initiatives across the business.
  • Identify opportunities to improve governance processes, strengthen controls and enhance organisational security outcomes.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in security governance, policy development, risk management or compliance within a government, defence or similarly regulated environment.
  • Proven experience designing, writing and implementing security policies, standards and governance frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Government security frameworks, standards and compliance obligations.
  • Experience conducting enterprise risk management, assurance and control monitoring activities.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex policy, legislative and regulatory requirements and translate them into practical business solutions.
  • Experience supporting audits, assurance reviews and compliance assessments.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, including the preparation of executive briefings, reports and policy documentation.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships at all levels.
  • The ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and drive outcomes in a complex environment.
Highly Regarded
  • Previous experience within Defence or national security environments.
  • Exposure to Defence industry security requirements or other highly regulated security frameworks.
  • Experience leading policy uplift, governance transformation or security maturity initiatives.
