The team sits within a specialist program office responsible for governance, assurance, and lifecycle management of complex national capability programs, supporting cutting-edge satellite, digital earth, and geospatial initiatives.
About the Role
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a key role supporting the delivery, governance, and ongoing evolution of a major Earth Observation capability program. Operating within a program management office environment, you will provide engineering leadership across the full capability lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing high-level technical advice on engineering assurance, compliance, and program progress
- Supporting capability lifecycle management, including requirements development, monitoring, reporting, and acceptance
- Developing engineering processes, procedures, and governance frameworks
- Leading technical certification activities and maintaining associated frameworks
- Conducting engineering assurance and technical review activities
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and international partners to achieve program objectives
- Contributing to engineering strategy and fostering a strong engineering community of practice
To be successful in this role, you will bring a blend of strong technical capability, stakeholder engagement skills, and experience working in complex environments.
You will demonstrate:
- Extensive experience (8+ years) in systems engineering and system integration across complex programs
- Strong knowledge of engineering assurance, technical certification, and compliance frameworks
- Proven experience supporting engineering aspects of large-scale capability or infrastructure programs
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and build productive working relationships
- Strong problem-solving ability and the capacity to manage competing priorities in dynamic environments
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across technical and non-technical stakeholders, including research and science specialists
- A relevant tertiary qualification in engineering (Systems Engineering or similar)

Location: The role is based in Canberra ACT.
Contract terms: 12 months from commencement date, plus 2x 12 month extensions
Experience Level: Senior – EL1 Equivalent
Security Requirements: Candidates must hold a minimum Baseline security clearance on submission.
