About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Software Developer to contribute to the design, development and ongoing support of secure and scalable software solutions. Working under broad direction, you will interpret technical designs and specifications, develop and maintain software applications, and support system integration activities across on‑premises and cloud environments.
This role involves hands‑on development across modern programming languages, supporting DevSecOps practices, and contributing to enterprise platforms and complex system integrations. You will also assist with data manipulation, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement activities while operating within a high‑security environment.
The Successful Candidate
You will be an experienced software professional who takes technical responsibility across the full software development lifecycle. You will bring a strong engineering mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in secure and complex environments.
To be successful, you will have:
  • Demonstrated experience developing software using Java, Python and/or C++
  • Strong experience working in Linux/UNIX environments
  • Experience designing, building, testing, deploying and supporting software applications
  • Experience with data manipulation and integration across systems and workflows
  • Exposure to DevSecOps pipelines and automated build, test and deployment processes
  • Experience working with enterprise and cloud technologies such as containerised platforms, orchestration tools, databases and monitoring solutions
  • A solid understanding of cyber security principles and secure software development practices
  • Experience contributing to system integration, automation and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strong documentation skills and the ability to provide technical advice to stakeholders
Highly regarded experience includes:
  • Kubernetes, Apache NiFi, SQL databases, OpenSearch/Elastic, Grafana
  • Configuration management and automation tools (e.g. Ansible, VMware)
  • Cloud and storage technologies
  • Atlassian toolsets
  • UX/UI considerations in solution design
Other requirements:
  • Ability to work effectively in a high‑security environment
  • Strong collaboration, communication and problem‑solving skills
 
Candidates must also be willing to undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to engagement.

Location: The role is based in Canberra ACT.
Contract terms: until 30 June, 2027, plus 2x 12 month extensions
Experience Level: Senior – EL1 Equivalent
Security Requirements: Current Top-Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance is strongly preferred, however candidates who have held a TSPV in the previous 12-month period (which has since been downgraded) may be considered. An OSA(Organisational Suitability Assessment) will be required for this position.
