Solutions Architect / DevOps Lead

Solution Architect / DevOps Lead – Energy Transition & DERMS

About the Consultancy

Join a leading international consultancy delivering large‑scale transformation programs across Energy & Utilities and other highly regulated industries. Our teams design and deliver cloud‑native platforms that enable modern grid operations, secure integration, and data‑driven decision‑making — supporting long‑term energy transition outcomes.

About the End Client

The end client is a major Energy & Utilities organisation delivering a strategic energy transition program, focused on integrating distributed energy resources and improving real‑time grid visibility and orchestration through DERMS and supporting platforms. (End‑client name will remain confidential.)

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly experienced Solution Architect / DevOps Lead – Energy Transition & DERMS to lead the design and delivery of scalable, secure, cloud‑native solutions enabling DER integration, grid orchestration, and real‑time, data‑driven operations. This role combines architecture leadership with DevOps engineering direction and cloud platform expertise, supporting complex multi‑vendor ecosystems.

Start: 4 May (as per role brief)
Location: Perth

Key Responsibilities

1) Solution Architecture & Design

  • Define end‑to‑end architecture for DERMS, grid‑edge systems, and energy transition platforms.
  • Design scalable integration patterns across DER devices, aggregators, SCADA, AMI, and enterprise systems.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, cyber security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop solution blueprints, architecture artefacts, and technology roadmaps.
2) DevOps & Cloud Engineering Leadership

  • Lead DevOps strategy across cloud ( Azure/AWS), hybrid, and on‑prem platforms.
  • Establish CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC), and automated deployment frameworks.
  • Drive platform reliability, observability, and performance optimisation.
  • Promote DevSecOps practices, including automated security and compliance controls.
3) Energy Transition & DERMS Enablement

  • Support implementation and integration of DERMS platforms (e.g. GE DERMS or equivalent).
  • Enable use cases including distributed energy orchestration (PV, batteries, EVs), network visibility/constraint management, and demand response/flexibility services.
  • Contribute to standards‑based integration (e.g. CSIP‑AUS, OpenADR, IEC standards).
4) Integration & Data Platforms

  • Architect integration across real‑time and batch data pipelines.
  • Work with data platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks to enable analytics and forecasting.
  • Ensure interoperability between operational technology (OT) systems and IT platforms.
5) Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership

  • Engage business, engineering, and vendor stakeholders to align solution direction with outcomes.
  • Provide technical leadership across architects, engineers, and DevOps teams.
  • Support governance forums such as Architecture Review Boards and design authorities.
Required Skills & Experience

Domain Experience (Energy & Utilities)

  • Strong experience in Energy & Utilities, especially energy transition and DER integration.
  • Exposure to grid operations, AMI, SCADA, or network systems.
  • Hands‑on DERMS or grid‑edge platform experience is highly desirable.
Architecture & DevOps

  • Proven experience as a Solution Architect and/or DevOps Lead.
  • Strong cloud experience with Microsoft Azure and/or AWS.
  • CI/CD experience with tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
  • IaC capability using Terraform, ARM, Bicep, or CloudFormation; automation tooling such as Ansible.
Integration & Data

  • Experience with API‑led integration, event streaming, and microservices architecture.
  • Familiarity with data pipelines supporting advanced analytics.
Technical Depth

  • Cloud‑native architecture and distributed systems design.
  • Security, identity, and access management knowledge.
  • Containerisation experience (Docker; Kubernetes preferred).
Ways of Working

  • Experience working in Agile / SAFe environments with cross‑functional teams and vendors.
Desirable

  • Experience with utilities in Australia or similar regulatory environments.
  • Knowledge of DER standards/protocols such as CSIP‑AUS and IEEE 2030.5.
  • Exposure to AI/ML use cases in energy forecasting or optimisation.
  • Azure/AWS architecture or DevOps certifications.
What’s on Offer

  • Opportunity to lead architecture and DevOps uplift for a major Energy Transition / DERMS program.
  • Work with an international consultancy on complex, evolving transformation initiatives.
  • High‑impact role spanning strategy, design, and delivery leadership across multi‑vendor ecosystems.
  • This is a long-term contract opportunity based in Perth, WA
