The Administrator will be responsible for developing and implementing an application virtualisation design to deliver applications to existing environments. They will also be responsible for developing a third-party patching design and providing Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to the Digital Workspaces team for the development and management of the organisation’s SOE’s. The role sits with the Digital Workspaces (DWSPC) technical team who provide management and support of the organisation’s Virtual Desktop Environments and Windows Standard Operating Environments (SOEs).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop an application virtualisation design to deliver applications to existing environments. This design must cater for the current capabilities of the existing solution which includes a highly available design.
- Implementation of above design into test and production environments, performing a migration to the new solution.
- Where applicable, any applications that are baked into the desktop that could benefit from virtualisation are migrated.
- Develop a third-party patching design. Integrate the third-party patching solution into Configuration Manager to provide automated patching.
- Validate system and security compliance of existing applications and develop a strategy for uplifting applications and a patching cycle.
- Provide SME advice to Digital Workspaces and in house training/overview where required.
- SOE Development, Configuration & Operations Advice.
- Provide SME assistance to the Digital Workspaces team for the development and management of the organisations SOE’s, support during outages, and for known issues.
- Problem solving skills and a willingness to learn are core skills required for this role.
- Demonstrated experience in the maintenance of applications running on, and system administration of a Windows Desktop Environment, including development of Windows SOEs.
- Demonstrated experience in System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM).
- Experience with engineering and deploying a streamlined portal solution to enable users to access critical desktop applications securely from a centralised web-based dashboard.
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Application Virtualisation.
- Demonstrated experience with Application Packaging.
- Demonstrated experience with PowerShell scripting.
