About the Role
The Test Lead is accountable for the end-to-end leadership in ensuring the delivery of high-quality ICT solutions by planning, executing, and delivering high-quality software testing and quality assurance (QA) activities using risk and requirements-based testing principles.
The Test Lead contributes to all aspects of the software testing lifecycle by providing technical leadership, and strategic advice to internal and external stakeholders, and teams, ensuring quality outcomes that align with business and technical requirements.
The Test Lead works collaboratively with project teams, technical specialists, and business stakeholders to validate solution readiness, improve quality outcomes, and contribute to the continuous improvement of testing frameworks, standards, and processes across the organisation, while managing stakeholder expectations, and supporting ICT solution delivery.
Key Responsibilities
1. Test Strategy, Planning and Governance
- Own and deliver the overall test strategy, test approach, and test plans.
- Establish and govern test standards, metrics, and reporting aligned with ISTQB and organisational frameworks.
- Define scope, resourcing, schedules, environments, dependencies, and risks.
- Produce and maintain high quality test artefacts including test strategies, test plans, data requirements, and traceability matrices.
2. Test Delivery Leadership
- Lead and coordinate system, integration, regression, UAT support, and end-to-end testing.
- Approve release readiness and provide go-live recommendations.
- Monitor test execution progress, manage dependencies and risks, and take corrective action to ensure delivery milestones are achieved.
- Act as the primary escalation point for test delivery issues, providing timely communication and resolution to stakeholders.
3. Defect, Risk and Quality Management
- Oversee defect triage, prioritisation, resolution, and root cause analysis.
- Identify and proactively manage quality risks.
- Provide clear, timely reporting on defect trends, quality metrics, and residual risks to support informed decision making.
- Ensure defects and quality risks are effectively managed through closure and reflected in release and go live recommendations.
4. Leadership, Coaching and Vendor Management
- Lead, mentor, and coach test analysts and vendor teams.
- Manage vendor testing services and quality outcomes.
- Set clear expectations and accountability for test delivery and standards.
- Foster effective collaboration with internal teams and external suppliers.
5. Quality Engineering and Tooling
- Define automation strategy and quality engineering practices including CI/CD quality gates.
- Ensure appropriate tooling is selected and used effectively to support test delivery and reporting.
- Promote consistent adoption of quality engineering practices across teams and vendors.
6. Continuous Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement of testing frameworks, processes, and templates.
- Stay current with industry trends including AI assisted testing, model-based testing, automation optimisation, and cloud testing.
- Promote adoption of industry best practices and continuous uplift of testing capability.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related discipline.
- ISTQB® Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) or international equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience leading testing in complex ICT environments.
2. Desirable:
- Additional ISTQB® or equivalent certifications, such as:

- ISTQB® Advanced Test Manager (CTAL-TM) or equivalent.
- ISTQB® AI Testing (CT AI)
- Strong stakeholder and vendor management experience.
- Familiarity with Agile development processes, and/or SCRUM, CANBAN experience.
- Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitLab, GitHub Actions, Jenkins), and modern cloud testing practices.
- Experience with test management and collaboration tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Zephyr).
- Working knowledge of monitoring tools, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and distributed systems testing.
Contract to start in May 2026 running until December 2026 with potential extensions.
