About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior WHSE Internal Auditor to lead and deliver internal audits across a broad range of work health, safety and environmental activities.
This role goes beyond compliance checking. You will work closely with leaders, subject matter experts and operational teams to assess the effectiveness of WHSE controls, identify improvement opportunities and provide practical recommendations that support long-term business outcomes.
Reporting to the Senior WHSE Manager, you will take ownership of the full audit lifecycle, from planning and stakeholder engagement through to reporting, corrective action tracking and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning, conducting and leading WHSE audit engagements
- Assessing the effectiveness of safety and environmental management controls
- Analysing findings and preparing clear, evidence-based audit reports
- Partnering with stakeholders to identify practical improvement opportunities
- Monitoring corrective actions and verifying implementation outcomes
- Reviewing WHSE policies and procedures to support ongoing legislative compliance
- Providing trusted advice on WHSE performance, risk and compliance matters
- Building positive working relationships across operational and corporate teams.
The Successful Candidate
To be successful, you will bring a strong background in internal auditing together with a sound understanding of WHSE legislation, management systems and best-practice compliance frameworks.
You will be a confident communicator who can engage constructively at all levels of an organisation and balance professional independence with a collaborative approach.
We are looking for candidates who have:
- At least five years' experience conducting internal audits
- Lead Auditor qualifications and/or formal internal auditing training
- Strong knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems
- Experience auditing against compliance and governance requirements
- A strong understanding of Australian WHS legislation and codes of practice
- Excellent analytical, report writing and stakeholder engagement skills
- The ability to work effectively across multiple priorities and stakeholder groups
- Membership of a recognised auditing body such as the Institute of Internal Auditors (desirable)
- Australian Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 Security Clearance.

Location and Contract Term: This role is Canberra based . This is a permanent role - 160k + super.
