Our client is a large Australian Government organisation undertaking a significant uplift of their technology environment. They are expanding their technical team and require an experienced Linux Engineer to support the development, integration, maintenance, and operational readiness of a key enterprise system. You’ll be joining a highly skilled group working on complex systems within a secure and structured environment.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Windows Engineer to join a specialised capability team delivering systems engineering, software development, sustainment, and integration services within a secure deployed ICT environment. This long‑term role involves contributing to system design, build, automation, administration, patching, and third‑level support across Windows‑based virtualised platforms, while working closely with a small engineering team to develop, maintain, and integrate software components, support production environments, and provide technical advice for continuous improvement. The position is primarily on‑site in Canberra within a high‑security, high‑impact operational setting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and documenting Windows‑based system nodes and ensuring alignment with interfacing systems
- Developing and maintaining software components
- Building, administering, and supporting production environments
- Automating installation and configuration processes
- Providing Level 3 support, troubleshooting, and incident resolution
- Managing system baselines, configuration control, and software inventories
- Contributing to SOPs, training materials, and knowledge transfer activities
- Developing and executing patch management processes
- Ensuring system compliance against technical baselines and security requirements
The Successful Candidate
To be successful, you will bring advanced experience in Windows engineering, software development, and system administration in complex or secure ICT environments.
Essential experience:
- Strong background in Windows‑based software development (Microsoft development tools)
- Experience creating Windows SOEs via PXE
- Proficiency in PowerShell, Group Policy, and Active Directory / ADFS
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab Actions)
- Familiarity with KVM virtualisation, OpenStack, Ansible, and software integration
- Ability to troubleshoot complex faults, including reviewing code written by others
- Strong communication skills and ability to provide technical advice
- 8+ years’ software development experience or systems engineering.
- Experience with SharePoint administration
- Exposure to Linux development or administration
- Networking (Layer 2/3) fundamentals
- Experience with deployable or remote CIS environments
- Understanding of systems engineering processes or agile delivery
- Additional scripting (Bash, Python)
- Ability to work on‑site in Canberra for the majority of the engagement
- Long-term Contract: Until 30 June 2027 with 2 x 12 month extension options
