Whizdom Recruitment Veteran Owned Staffing Agency, Named Veteran Employer Of Choice

Whizdom is proud to share that we’ve signed the Veteran Employment Commitment (VEC), reinforcing our dedication to hiring Australian veterans and helping them succeed in civilian careers. This commitment has earned us the title of Veteran Employer of Choice, the highest recognition for businesses that support veterans. This recognition reflects our continued efforts to create valuable career opportunities for those who’ve served in the Australian Defence Force (ADF)

The Veteran Employment Commitment is part of the Prime Minister’s National Veterans’ Employment Program, which aims to raise awareness of the skills, values, and experiences veterans bring to the civilian workforce. By signing the VEC, Whizdom shows its ongoing dedication to creating a supportive, inclusive environment where veterans can thrive.

We ensure our recruitment and onboarding processes are veteran-friendly, providing the support and training veterans need to succeed in civilian roles. This includes flexible work options, free counselling through our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and wellbeing vouchers to ease their transition. Whizdom is featured as a Veteran Employer of Choice on the Department of Veterans’ Affairs website, making it easier for veterans to find us and learn about career opportunities at Whizdom. Check out our profile here.

Whizdom’s Managing Director, John McCluskey, an ex-Navy veteran, shares his experience: “Leaving the security of the Defence Force can be exciting but challenging. When I made the transition, there was limited support available, but now there are resources to guide veterans every step of the way.”

Supporting Veterans at Every Stage

Whizdom, a 100% Australian-owned, Veteran-run organisation, is committed to helping veterans transition into civilian careers in technology and white-collar industries. We recognise the immense value veterans bring to our business and the wider community, and we’re dedicated to providing ongoing support in recruitment, onboarding, career development, and retention.

Our Veteran Employer of Choice Policy outlines the support we provide to veterans:

  • Recruitment: We actively recruit veterans for civilian roles and help translate military experience into civilian qualifications.

  • Onboarding and Retention: We offer tailored resources, such as resume writing, interview coaching, career advice, and flexible work options to support veterans as they adjust to civilian life.

  • Leadership and Commitment: As a Veteran-led company, we lead by example and partner with defence-focused organisations and initiatives like Soldier On’s Marching On campaign. In 2024, we raised $1,421 for Soldier On to support their mental health services for veterans and their families.

How We Support Veterans

  • Veteran-Centric Recruitment: Our recruitment consultants are trained to understand military experience, ensuring veterans receive the guidance they need throughout the process. We also highlight roles with "Defence experience desirable" and encourage referrals within the veteran community.

  • Dedicated Support Channels: Whizdom hosts veteran-specific resources on our website and runs events for our contractor events and regularly attends Defence expos, giving veterans the opportunity to connect and expand their networks.

The Impact

Our efforts have a positive effect on everyone involved:

  • Veterans: Veterans benefit from a smoother transition into civilian work, with tailored resources and strong support networks that help them succeed long term.

  • Clients: Businesses gain from the leadership and problem-solving skills that veterans bring, helping address workforce shortages.

  • Community: Our focus on veteran employment helps strengthen the community by promoting diversity and economic inclusion. The funds raised for Soldier On support their vital work in improving the mental health of veterans and their families.

Long-Term Impact

Whizdom is committed to ensuring that our initiatives have a lasting impact on veterans and their families. We regularly review and update our Veteran Employer of Choice Policy to keep pace with the changing needs of veterans and the labour market.

By fostering a culture of support and inclusion, Whizdom maximises the chances that our initiatives will create positive long-term outcomes for veterans, businesses, and the community. Our ongoing commitment to being a leading Veteran Employer of Choice ensures we remain a trusted partner for veterans making the transition into civilian careers.
