The Role:
The Department requires multiple Cyber Security Engineers to play a pivotal role in driving the uplift of cyber security maturity and enhancing security operations. The Cyber Security Engineers will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to implement advanced security measures and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in cyber security.
The Cyber Security Engineer will be responsible for delivering:
Location and Contract Term: This role is based in Canberra. Contract till 30 June 2025 with extension options pending budget and delegate approval.
Security Requirements: Applicants must be Australian Citizens. A NV1 security clearance is required for this role.

The Cyber Security Engineers will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to implement advanced security measures and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in cyber security.
The Cyber Security Engineer will be responsible for delivering:
- Developing and implementing strategies to uplift the Departments cyber security maturity, ensuring alignment with industry standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with the Security Operations Centre to enhance threat detection, incident response, and recover processes.
- Conduct comprehensive security assessments and risk analysis, identifying gaps and recommending solutions to mitigate risks.
- Evaluate, implement, and optimise security tools to ensure effective monitoring and protection.
- Drive continuous improvements in cyber security processes, controls and technologies to achieve higher levels of security maturity.
- Must be able to work independently and with minimal direction
- Experience in implementing the Essential 8.
- Experience in configuration management tools particularly SCCM/MECM
- Experience in implementation of Microsoft XDR/Sentinel
- Good understanding of log collection strategies and technologies
