About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to lead the design and implementation of data solutions for a sophisticated new system. This role involves managing data architecture, integration, and support activities across multiple capabilities. You will be responsible for designing secure, scalable data stores, developing data models, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure infrastructure meets evolving business needs.

Location: The role is based in Canberra ACT
Contract terms: 12 months from commencement date, plus potential extensions
SFIA level required: The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes of SFIA Level of Responsibility 5.
Security Requirements: Current Top-Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance is strongly preferred, however candidates who have held a TSPV in the previous 12-month period (which has since been downgraded) may be considered. An OSA (Organisational Suitability Assessment) will be required for this position.

This role involves managing data architecture, integration, and support activities across multiple capabilities. You will be responsible for designing secure, scalable data stores, developing data models, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure infrastructure meets evolving business needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading solution design and architecture using logical models.
- Designing and managing structured and unstructured data stores.
- Creating and maintaining data models and documentation.
- Collaborating with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders.
- Supporting AI/ML processing and data analytics initiatives.
- Ensuring compliance with security and performance standards.
The Successful Candidate
To be successful, you will need:
- Demonstrated experience in data management, enterprise architecture, and emerging technology monitoring (SFIA Level 4–5).
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to guide technical teams.
- Experience in Defence or national security environments is highly desirable.
- A background in AI/ML and database design is advantageous.
- A current TSPV security clearance (or the ability to reactivate) is essential.
- Willingness to undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA), including a psychological evaluation.
