The Department is seeking a self-motivated and experienced Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Engineer with a strong foundation in cloud infrastructure deployment and a keen understanding of security protocols to drive complex technical components of a critical Whole of Australian Government (WoAG) program, with the objective of increasing the adoption of AI across Australian Government. The WoAG platform provides secure hosting and AI app development services to its customers and is looking to expand its platform choices to include AWS Cloud.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our cloud-based systems within AWS environment, ensuring robust security measures, aligned to ISM controls, are integrated at every stage. Key Responsibilities
Security Required: Baseline Security Clearance required
Location - Canberra based or Hybrid -Required to be in the office a minimum of 3 days a week. Standard hours should be completed between 8am and 6pm each day.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage AWS infrastructure including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and VPCs.
- Develop and implement security policies and procedures in line with the ISM Controls necessary to safeguard our cloud resources and data. Conduct regular security assessments, audits, and vulnerability testing to ensure robust security.
- Monitor and optimize the performance, availability, and scalability of AWS cloud solutions.
- Support APS projects that wish to utilise AWS services within the Hosting environment, with SME guidance and documentation on the AWS Cloud platform.
- Provide technical leadership and knowledge transfer to internal teams, including mentoring or training team members.
- Demonstrated experience designing, deploying and maintaining AWS environments.
- Demonstrated experience securing AWS environments within Government operational and security frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience deploying and configuring AWS through Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
- In-depth experience in DevOps, cloud architecture, or related roles with proven expertise in AWS cloud platform.
- Hands-on experience with microservices architecture, orchestration applications such as Kubernetes, Docker, and orchestration tools.
- Familiarity with Microsoft DevOps an advantage or alternative tools such as Jenkins, Git, ELK stack, and scripting.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
- Understanding of identity and access management (IAM) principles.
- Experience deploying and supporting AWS AI tools and platforms, including services like Bedrock, is considered advantageous.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure services is an advantage. AWS Certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer).
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Shell, or PowerShell.
- Experience with cloud migration strategies and executing large-scale migrations.
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
