The Role:
The Data Architect exercises a considerable degree of independence with work being performed under the general guidance of the team leader and the Director. A suitable candidate will have proven experience in understanding the data framework and data pipelines in a large scale organisation.
The data architect is either experienced or conversant in emerging tools like columnar and NoSQL databases, predictive analytics, data visualization, and unstructured data. While not necessarily deep in all of these technologies, the data architect is experienced in one or more, and must understand them sufficiently to guide the agency in understanding and adopting them.
Primary Duties:
•The Data Architect will; Provide expert advice on data architecture and management best practices for implementation within the Department Design business intelligence strategies and reports in response to evolving business needs and engage with stakeholders across the business to develop the vision for the department's use of data. •Analyse data related business needs with business analysts and technology teams by providing advice on data warehousing methods and approaches, providing effective data analysis strategies for data migration for systems replacement projects.
•Provide assurance over data solutions and make recommendations to ensure compliance with relevant policies, strategies, and industry best practice.
•Analyse, plan, and define data architecture framework, including security, reference data, metadata, and master data.
•Work with the Departments enterprise architects to develop and modify enterprise architecture, providing consultancy and advice to stakeholders when gathering business requirements to provide input into systems replacement and future solution projects.
•Work collaboratively to redesign and establish data governance processes, tools and artefacts which align with the Departments enterprise architecture.
•Provide expertise in the development and maintenance of a big data platforms including Data Visualisation products.
•Provide expert advice on data architecture and management best practices for implementation within the Department.
•Lead the overall technical solution design of big data Platforms to support business capabilities.
•Provide expertise in designing services for data quality including cleansing,standardisation, enrichment and matching.
•Provide technical expertise in configuring systems for high availability, automated fail over and disaster recovery.
•Integrate industry tested methodologies for optimising and streamlining data processing best practices.
•Create and update various documentation such as: Technical specifications,technical designs and matrices, Architectural documents, System design specifications, Work flows, events, and sequence diagrams, UML (Universal Mark-UpLanguage) charts.
•Support the Section Director with advice and expertise to in relation to the data platforms to support the system owners and applications to develop the Departments data strategy and roadmap.
Location and Contract Term: This role is Canberra based. 12 month contract with 1 x 12 month contract extension options pending budget and delegate approval.
Security Requirements: Applicants must be Australian Citizens. A NV1 Security Clearance is required for this role.
