We have an exciting opportunity for Data Engineers who are at a SFIA Level 5. The Data Engineer (SFIA5) is required to perform and achieve complex to very complex data engineering work within an integrated workforce.
The Data Engineer will engage in complex to very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes
The Data Engineers will work closely with stakeholders across business and capability delivery areas to ensure that mission outcomes are realised in a secure, scalable and agile manner.

Location: This role is a Canberra, ACT based role. Interstate or Remote working arrangements will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. See Job description for details.
Contract terms: 12 months with 2x 12 month extensions.
SFIA level required: The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes at a SFIA Level of Responsibility 5
Security Requirements: Candidates MUST have as a minimum requirement an AGSVA Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) security clearance to perform the role. Candidates with an AGSVA Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) and Positive Vetting (PV) are encouraged to apply. Candidates will need to be willing to undergo pre-employment checks which may include, ID and work rights, security clearance verification, and any other client requested checks.

The Data Engineers will work closely with stakeholders across business and capability delivery areas to ensure that mission outcomes are realised in a secure, scalable and agile manner.
Major Responsibilities:
- Identify and undertake analysis to define, structure and solve complex to very complex data engineering challenges.
- Utilise tools and techniques to develop and test data engineering solutions to achieve business outcomes.
- Prepare, publish and provide advice on requirements, current and future state models and plans, designs and solutions to improve data interoperability, storage, analysis and transmission.
- Build maintain and deploy data pipelines analytical environments and models and data stores to store transform, integrate, analyse and transport data and meta-data from a variety of sources to enable others to use and analyse data.
- Manage the risks associated with the use of data including ensuring the security of data storage and transmission mechanisms.
- Build and sustain strong relationships and negotiate with customers and key stakeholders to deliver tailored recommendations.
- Resolve problems and evaluate lessons learned using expertise, professional judgement and initiative to identify and recommend alternative courses of action and opportunities for continuous improvement.
Skills and Experience required to succeed in this role:
- Demonstrated experience as a Data Engineer in large and complex enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience in complex to very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience actively managing key stakeholder relationships and identifying relevant stakeholders’ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience in Object Oriented Language (Java, Python, go, JavaScript, SQL, Cypher).
- Demonstrated experience in processing and analytics services. (Spark, Java map reduce, Knative, Ray, NIFI).
- Knowledge or experience in working with Open-search, Neo4j,Redis, Oracle, Kafka, Kubernetes.
