The Role:
The Department is looking for a Senior Test Analyst with strong experience in testing various Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) and Extract, Load, Transform (ELT) processes on the department’s Azure data and analytics platform.
The role will be responsible for the design, development and delivery of data testing activities across several data movement and transformation processes. These data movement processes focus on the preparation of data for use in decision making processes across the department, utilising modern cloud technology (Azure) to enable operational analytics use cases. Verification and validation is needed to confirm that they adhere to specific requirements and to avoid any negative consequences on business operations or decisions arising from errors, inconsistencies, or inaccuracies.
To be successful in the role requires you to have a strong work ethic including taking ownership, providing leadership, having a high level of productivity, and working with a multi-disciplinary team in an Agile development environment. You must have suitable qualifications or training in data testing techniques and at least 5 years’ experience working as a data test engineer.
Key duties and responsibilities
Skills and Experience Required:
• A minimum of 5 years’ work experience as a data test engineer (such as data warehouse tester or ETL/ELT tester or Business Intelligence tester).
• Strong working experience with large and/or complex relational databases.
• Strong proficiency with SQL scripting to validate source/target data loads and transformations.
• Very good understanding of business intelligence concepts and relational data models in areas such as ETL/ELT processing, data warehouses, dashboards and analytics
Location and Contract Term: This role is based in ACT. 12 month contract with 2x12-month extension option pending budget and delegate approval.
Security Requirements: Applicants must be Australian Citizens. A baseline security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain is required.

- Testing various Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) and Extract, Load, Transform (ELT) processes on the department’s Azure data and analytics platform.
- Utilising expert level knowledge of best testing practices to uplift capability maturity.
- Developing test templates and artefacts for use in project documentation and reporting.
- Ensuring adequate test coverage including exploratory testing.
- Conducting defect management, including defect tracking, issue resolution, and signoffs.
- Creating and presenting test reports to stakeholders.
- Be responsive, flexible, and work collaboratively as part of an agile team.
- Create and maintain test frameworks and strategies.
- Sharing outcomes, knowledge and experience with other test analysts in the section.
- Act as technical escalation point.
- Provide technical support in the development of test deliverables.
- Assisting project teams towards achieving testing objectives that align with departmental, divisional, and sectional priorities, employing both agile and waterfall methodologies.
- Strong relationship building, communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Training and mentoring junior testers through regular quality reviews and constructive feedback on industry best practices.
