The Role:
The Department requires a skilled and experienced Radio Technician Network Communications Specialist who will,
Location and Contract Term: This role is based in ACT. 12-month contract (approx start date October 2025) with extension options up to 24 months pending budget and delegate approval.
Security Requirements: Applicants must be Australian Citizens. A NV1 security clearance is required.

The Department requires a skilled and experienced Radio Technician Network Communications Specialist who will,
- Providing operational support and technical advice through the acquisition, development, deployment, installation and maintenance of systems for use in Mobile Radio and fixed site communications equipment;
- Maintenance of the mission critical Department radio network;
- Management of the national radio system using technologies including P25 and WAVE;
- Support the uplift of radio and communications capability through enterprise program management activities;
- Support and provide advice on the planning and implementation of telecommunications devices, networks and systems such as voice, radio, P25 core, two-way, data, microwave, satellite and digital data systems;
- Support and assist the Department in commercial discussions with State Radio Networks and vendors;
- Issue and return of radios (controlled items) for BAU and special operations;
- Decommissioning of redundant radio sites; and
- Support and assist in the Departments management of encryption for all radio devices
- Support to operational vehicles and electronic items such as Digital Record of Interview (DROI).
- Assist in the design and implementation of radios systems in Pacific islands
- Assist in training of Pacific island technicians through mentoring and face to face delivery
- Providing operational support and technical advice through the acquisition, development, deployment, installation and maintenance of systems for use in Mobile Radio and fixed site communications equipment;
- Maintains and monitors network performance including investigating and resolving complex and system-wide network issues to meet operational requirements using a wide range of diagnostic tools and techniques;
- Engages with and influences stakeholders to ensure services and solutions are developed to meet agreed service levels and quality standards to address client needs;
- Undertakes contract management and procurement activities with State Radio Networks and vendors, including overseeing and measuring the fulfilment of contractual obligations;
- Supports day-to-day management, resource planning and work allocation within the team to meet agreed service levels;
- Monitors the external environment to gather intelligence on emerging technologies and evaluate the potential impact, threat and opportunities; and
- Contribute to the uplift of radio and communications capability through enterprise program management activities including identifying and exploiting new technologies and improving existing technologies, ensuring they are fit for purpose and fit for use within operational context.
- Work effectively in a small team environment;
- Provide knowledge/skills transfer to other teams
