About the role/ Experience required:
They are seeking experienced Software Engineers (x3) to assist researchers in building, designing and testing software toolchains in support of research outcomes. Deliver highly complex, secure, common software stacks and environments consisting of optimised scientific codes, applications, libraries and toolsets. This includes vetting, building and installing codes, optimising runtime performance of advanced research toolchains while ensuring reproducibility, establishing and maintaining internal support tools (e.g. for automation, security, health monitoring, metrics, etc.)
Provide innovative problem-solving approaches to optimise high performance computing research workflows, performance benchmarking and code optimisation within time frames and quality requirements. Share expertise, guide and mentor less experienced employees and work in a multi- disciplinary team to deliver these outcomes.

Key duties and responsibilities
- Establish, optimise and maintain robust scientific tool chains specific to the requirements of supercomputing stakeholders.
- Work proactively with multiple stakeholders within the Project, the Research Technology Operations Division and multiple external projects to ensure timely deliver of robust, optimised and reproducible tool chains essential to the advanced decision support being undertaken by stakeholders.
- Continue the development, optimisation and advancement of the existing DevSecOps quality assurance and code vetting processes.
- Identify and scope opportunities for research software tool chain optimisations.
The successful candidate has experience with:
- Proven experience and excellent ability to trace, debug and analyse code and data paths in parallel environments;
- Advanced understanding or dependency management and code build process used by 3 or more of the following tools/repository managers: Make/autoconf., Cmake, Pip or equivalent, Spack;
- C, C++, Python, R, Fortran, Shell Scripting (Bash preferred)
- Technically detailed understanding of the following high performance computing technologies and protocols: Linux Kernel System Call Interface, Libraries and tools used in massively parallel environments such as MPI, Infiniband and RDMA, Advanced batch schedulers including topology aware scheduling for latency sensitive workflows;
- Excellent code problem solving, documentation and communication skills;
- Implementing and complying with Australian Government and Defence security and information management requirements;
- Working pro-actively on the optimisation of codes for use in massively parallel environments.
