About the Role
As a System Administrator – Kubernetes, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the reliability, performance, and security of the department’s containerisation platform. This position is based in Canberra or Sydney, with an estimated start date within the next 3–6 months. You’ll be responsible for managing Kubernetes clusters, implementing automation and monitoring solutions, and ensuring compliance with government IT security standards.

Location: The role is based in Canberra ACT or Sydney, NSW.
Contract terms: 12 months from commencement date, plus x2 12-month potential extensions
SFIA level required: The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes of SFIA Level of Responsibility 4-5.
Security Requirements: Current Top-Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance is strongly preferred, however candidates who have held a TSPV in the previous 12-month period (which has since been downgraded) may be considered. An OSA (Organisational Suitability Assessment) will be required for this position.

About the Role

You’ll be responsible for managing Kubernetes clusters, implementing automation and monitoring solutions, and ensuring compliance with government IT security standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain Kubernetes clusters (installation, configuration, upgrades)
- Monitor cluster health, performance, networking, storage, access controls, and security policies
- Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting mechanisms
- Automate tasks using tools like Ansible
- Collaborate with development teams for smooth application deployment
- Maintain documentation for design, integration, and support
- Support compliance with ISM and ACSC Essential 8 guidelines
- Assist with system accreditation and security control implementation
To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong background in system administration and a passion for automation and containerisation technologies.
Mandatory:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a System Administrator
- TSPV or TSPA security clearance
- Proven experience as a Kubernetes Administrator or similar role
- Proficiency in Linux system administration
- Strong scripting skills for automation
- Experience with Rancher
- Infrastructure-as-Code and Configuration-as-Code using Ansible (Collections, Engine, Vault)
- Git for version control of provisioning, configuration, and maintenance of Linux systems and Kubernetes clusters
- Familiarity with SFIA skills: IT infrastructure (ITOP), Application support (APSUP), System software (SYSP), Configuration management (CFMG)
