About the Role
As a Senior Software Asset Officer, you will play a pivotal role in managing the full lifecycle of software assets—from procurement through to disposal. You’ll be responsible for ensuring software products are licensed, supported, and maintained in accordance with policy and program requirements. This includes managing vendor relationships, analysing licensing data, and supporting internal governance processes.

Location: The role is based in Canberra ACT
Contract term: 9 June 2025 – 2 December 2025, plus potential extensions
SFIA level required: The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes of SFIA Level of Responsibility 5.
Security Requirements: Minimum NV1 Security Clearance Required

About the Role
As a Senior Software Asset Officer, you will play a pivotal role in managing the full lifecycle of software assets—from procurement through to disposal. You’ll be responsible for ensuring software products are licensed, supported, and maintained in accordance with policy and program requirements. This includes managing vendor relationships, analysing licensing data, and supporting internal governance processes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the Software Asset Management (SAM) tool and software deployment tracking
- Overseeing licensing, support, and compliance audits
- Producing reports and analysing software usage and deployment
- Supporting vendor compliance reviews and interpreting EULAs
- Providing guidance on governance and internal processes
- Collaborating with technical teams and stakeholders across the program
You are a proactive and detail-oriented professional with a strong background in software asset management. You bring excellent communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Experience with enterprise licensing agreements and asset management tools
- Strong knowledge of CMDBs, software discovery tools, and vendor negotiation
- Certified SAFe® Practitioner
- Experience in Defence or Australian Government environments
- Qualifications in IT Asset Management, Project Management, or Systems Engineering
- Familiarity with tools such as JIRA Insight, TAMIT, APM, SharePoint, and Excel
